If there are children between the ages of six and eleven years present, this adventure will evolve into the “Help the Gladiator Find his Helmet Tour!” The children will be led on a treasure hunt to try and find the Roman helmet (a small gift bag is included for the kids).This new exciting historical walk explores the depths of the hidden foundations of the city of Lutetia where the remains of ancient houses, workshops, ports, roman baths and fortifications, which date back to the 3rd century, were discovered. You will follow the origins of the ancient Gallic settlements to the Roman Empire under the leadership of Julius Caesar, who settled in the area that is called Paris today. You will explore the origins of Gaul through to the Romans, the Frankish Kings and on to the Baron Haussmann, who transformed the city to what we see today. You will learn about the domestic traditions and life of the Romans including their cuisine, religion, commerce, trade, leisure time and their “technology” and you will learn about their rise and eventual decline. The walk winds around ancient Paris to the Cluny Baths. You will have time to examine the display of the Roman statues, the sculpted monuments with Latin and Celtic inscriptions and the remains of ancient baths which were the center of life for the Romans. The guide, while weaving a narrative, will present a folder filled with colorful pictures tohelp understand what life was like for the Romans and the Parisii tribes. After the Baths, you will continue to Les Arènes de Lutèce (Lutetia Arena), the Roman amphitheater. You will see thisformer site of gladiators and mock-sea battles, learning about the role this violent entertainment played in the city’s early history. Les Enfants! Remember the Gladiator is still trying to find his helmet! Can you help! On certain days of the tour, an open-air market will be visited where a picnic lunch can be purchased to enjoy at the last stop of the tour in a small charming garden above the Arènes de Lutèce.
