During the age of Antiquity, an important Jewish community settled in Provence, particularly in the northern part known as the Comtat Venaissin, the land of the Pope. This tour will explore the history of this Jewish community, which left behind many traces of its past. We can customize this tour to show you whichever locations you choose. This could include a visit to the Synagogue of Carpentras. Built in 1367, it’s not just one of the oldest synagogues in France, but in the whole of Europe. We could also visit the small town of Pernes-les-Fontaines, discovering its history and heritage on a walking trail through its cobbled streets. Another highlight of this area is the Synagogue of Cavaillon, a perfect example of 18th-century Comtadin art. Today it’s a museum where you can learn all about the Jews who worshipped and prayed here.
