You will be given the chance to walk in the footsteps of the Harlem Hellfighters (the most decorated regiment during World War I), the members of the jazz clubs of Montmartre (named in the 1920s Harlem de Montmartre), Josephine Baker and Bricktop (famous singers and club owners in Paris), the world renowned World War I jet fighter Eugene Bullard and Al ‘Panama’ Brown who dazzled Parisians with his deft boxing. You will discover the neighborhoods of the famous jazz clubs, restaurants and hangouts of these famous people who changed the face of Paris in the 1920s and1930s. You will also hear the stories of the famous Harlem Renaissance writers from the US (Richard Wright, James Baldwin)and the famous Negritude Writers from France (Frantz Fanon, Léopold Sédar Senghor, a few of them buried at the Pantheon in Paris), who formed a powerful black culture in the City of Light. One particular Black French writer inspired the Black Panther movement and Malcom X. This tour will show old photos and rare footage of film taken during the time. The half day tour will take in two wonderful neighborhoods (one rarely seen by tourists) with the second part including gourmet shops and lively streetmarkets.
