It thus remains a favorite location for artistic expression and agathering place for prominent figures of the art world. Indeed, since 1945,this village has been a premier rendezvous spot for artists and celebritiesfrom around the world, which led to its being named the «Montmartre of theFrench Riviera». «Le Cagnard» meaning «the Sun of Provence». Built in the 13thcentury, Le Cagnard is an exceptional stone dwelling, which is part of the citywall of the Medieval village of Haut-de-Cagnes. Its history is closely tied tothat of the Château Grimaldi, which dates back to the 14th century: the GuardRoom in particular, with its arched fireplace, is evidence of its Medievalheritage, a time during which Knights protected the village and its château.Château le Cagnard’s restaurant is an absolutely magical place. The main diningroom is renowned for its sliding ceiling that opens up to reveal the blue sky,extending the beautiful terrace and its sublime view of the Mediterranean seaand the surrounding hills.
